    Frequently asked questions

Does a UAE company need an Arabic name?

Yes. A UAE trade licence shows the trade name in both English and Arabic. The licensing authority approves both versions when you reserve the name, so the Arabic must match the English.

Is the Arabic name a translation or a transliteration?

Usually both. The brand part is written phonetically in Arabic letters (Blue Ocean becomes بلو أوشن), while the activity part is translated (General Trading becomes للتجارة العامة), and the legal form is added (LLC becomes ذ.م.م).

Can I use this Arabic name on my licence?

Use it as a starting point. The licensing authority or a certified legal translator confirms the final Arabic spelling when the name is reserved.

Which words are not allowed in a UAE company name?

Religious, political and offensive terms are refused. Words such as UAE, Emirates, emirate names, Federal, Ministry, Bank, Insurance and Holding need extra approval. A name cannot start with International, Global or Middle East, must reflect the licensed activity, and cannot copy an existing company or a famous brand.

Can I use my own name for my company?

Yes, but it must be your full name (first, middle and last), you must be an owner or partner, and it cannot be shortened to initials.

What do FZE, FZCO and FZ-LLC mean?

They are free zone legal forms: FZE is a single-shareholder free zone company, while FZCO and FZ-LLC usually have several shareholders. Each free zone sets its own abbreviation and its Arabic form, which is added when the name is registered.

A guide only. The name check is a quick screen, not an official approval, and the Arabic is a suggestion. The licensing authority approves the final English and Arabic trade name.
