Frequently asked questions
How many public holidays does the UAE have in 2027?
Seven holidays covering about 12 days: New Year's Day, Eid al-Fitr (3 or 4 days), Arafat Day, Eid al-Adha (3 days), Hijri New Year, the Prophet's Birthday and National Day (2 days). The same holidays apply to the public and private sectors.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027 in the UAE?
Expected from Tuesday 9 March to Thursday 11 March 2027. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, the holiday adds one more day. The exact date is confirmed after the moon sighting.
When is Eid al-Adha 2027 in the UAE?
Arafat Day is expected on Saturday 15 May 2027, followed by Eid al-Adha from Sunday 16 to Tuesday 18 May, giving a four-day break.
Are these 2027 dates official?
Not yet. New Year and National Day are fixed by Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024. The Islamic holidays are astronomical forecasts and are confirmed by the UAE authorities close to each date.
Can UAE public holidays be moved to a weekend?
The Cabinet can move a holiday to the start or end of the week, except the Eid holidays. A holiday cannot be moved when it already falls on a weekend or another holiday.
Do private-sector employees get the same holidays?
Yes. Since 2025 the public and private sectors share the same official holidays. If you are asked to work on a public holiday, you are owed another day off or the day's wage plus at least 50% of basic pay (Labour Law, Article 28).
Is Commemoration Day (1 December) a holiday?
Commemoration Day is marked on 1 December, but under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024 the official National Day holiday is 2 and 3 December.
