Frequently asked questions

How many days of annual leave do I get in the UAE?

At least 30 days for each full year of service. If you have worked more than six months but less than a year, you get 2 days for each month. When your job ends, you also get leave for the part of the last year you worked. This is Article 29 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021.

How is leave salary calculated in the UAE?

Divide the relevant monthly salary by 30 and multiply by your leave days. While you take leave, you are paid your full wage, including allowances. When you leave the job, your unused leave is paid on your basic salary only.

Is unused leave paid on basic or total salary when I leave?

On basic salary. Article 19 of the Executive Regulation says that when service ends, the worker receives the cash equivalent of the leave balance according to the basic salary.

Are the 30 days calendar days or working days?

Calendar days. Weekends and rest days that fall inside your leave are counted as part of it, unless your contract or company policy gives you something better.

Can I carry forward my annual leave?

Yes, with your employer's approval you can carry forward up to half of your annual leave to the next year, or agree to be paid for it in cash at your current wage (Executive Regulation, Article 19). Your employer cannot stop you from taking leave for more than two years.

Do I get annual leave during probation?

Your employer may let you take leave during probation from your balance. If you leave during probation, you are still paid for your remaining leave balance.

Does unpaid leave reduce my annual leave?

Unpaid absence is not counted as service, so it reduces the leave you earn. Enter unpaid days in the calculator.

How is leave calculated for part-time workers?

In proportion to the hours worked, with a minimum of five working days a year (Executive Regulation, Article 18). Use the part-time option in the calculator.
