Frequently asked questions

What is the notice period in the UAE?

The notice period agreed in your contract, which must be at least 30 days and no more than 90 days (Article 43 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021). The same period applies to both employer and employee unless a different one benefits the worker.

What is the notice period during probation?

If the employer ends the contract during probation, it must give at least 14 days' written notice. If you resign during probation to join another UAE employer, you must give at least one month's notice; if you resign to leave the UAE, at least 14 days (Article 9).

How is my last working day calculated?

Count the notice days from the day after you give written notice. For example, 30 days' notice given on 14 October ends on 13 November. Under Article 67 the law uses the Gregorian calendar and treats a month as 30 days. Some employers count the notice day itself as day 1, so check your contract.

Am I paid during my notice period?

Yes. You keep your full wage for the notice period and must work if the employer asks. The parties can agree to shorten or waive the notice, but the worker keeps all rights for the agreed period (Article 43).

What if notice is not served?

The party that does not respect the notice period pays the other the worker's wage for the whole notice period or the part not served.

Do weekends and public holidays count in the notice period?

Yes, notice runs in calendar days, so weekends and holidays inside it are counted. The working-days calculator on this page shows how many actual working days the notice includes.

How do I count working days in the UAE?

Count the days between two dates and remove your weekend days and the UAE public holidays. Most UAE offices work Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off; some private companies use a Friday or Friday-Saturday weekend. Choose yours in the calculator.
